The Playhouse has a range of spaces available for hire which gives it a huge amount of versatility - so if you are looking to for venue hire in Bradford, you're in the right place.

Whether your looking for a theatre for a production, a creative seminar room, a place for your band to practice, a temporary art studio, a product launch venue, or a place to put on a yoga class, you'll find a space that's just right in our fantastic 1920's building in the heart of Bradford's Little Germany.

We can also provide catering from our friends at Xavier Catering, and technical support, both at very competitive rates.

the auditorium

the auditorium at bradford playhouse

The grandeur of our auditorium created by the beautiful architecture makes it a wonderful location for a range of different events.

Traces of the past left behind over the past ninety years give the space a sense of history. Visitors pick up on the feel of space that has been, and will continue to be, working, living and breathing.

With seating for 290, the auditorium is a grand backdrop for a huge range of uses and whilst we take care of our venue, we aren't precious about it. It could be used for theatre, dance, music or arts productions, or you could hire it for a prizegiving, product launch, conference, or seminar. We welcome proposals for the space that use a theatre setting in an unorthodox way, breaking the conventions of the space, as well as those who would like to use it as it traditionally has been.

We have plans to modify the seating to make it removable for standing concerts. If you are interested in using the theatre in this way, please e-mail us to express your interest.

sewing room bar

sewing room bar

This former costume wardrobe has been converted into a light and airy multi-purpose space.

An assymetric concrete bar, sewing patterns on the wall and customised furniture create a unique area that mixes modern styling with nods to the past. Huge windows allow the area to flood with light in the daytime and this is perhaps the best space for someone looking to work with natural light.

The furniture can be cleared out of the space if a large floor area is needed. We can also set up a music facilities, projectors and lighting, and this bar has been used as a gig venue by a number of live acts.

This is also a great space if you are going to be eating at the Playhouse, and we recommend our friends at Xavier Catering.

black box studio at the playhouse

In stark contrast to the stylised upstairs space, the black box provides a blank canvas on which to project your creativity. With moveable banked seating, this can act as a theatre for more intimate productions, but we have also used this space to run workshops and for live art performance by the Playhouse's inhouse troupe, pH neutral.

The black box can be completely transformed if needed - as in 2009, when it was the setting for the Rose Garden - click here for photos.

basement bar

The basement bar is where our busiest events tend to take place, with the versatile space allowing for a dancefloor and bar area, and a sofa area too. We have a music system permanently installed, and plenty of projection points for visuals.

The space around the seating area is also home to gallery space for artists - e-mail us if you're interested in exhibiting in our rolling programme. The Playhouse is free to artists looking for a place to exhibit.

Our bar can be hired during the day too and has been used for activities from rehearsing and auditioning for theatre productions, to a relaxed and informal meeting place for local community groups.

backstage at bradford playhouse

Backstage in the theatre is just as exciting as front of house, with hidden nooks to explore and use.

At the Playhouse we believe that these spaces can be brought to life and accessed by all and we have had several art installations taking place in our dressing rooms and corridors. The intimate spaces of the dressing rooms in particular can be transformed for smaller scale interventions. Backstage also makes an atmospheric setting as a film location.

foyer at the bradford playhouse
The foyer looks directly onto Chapel Street and is the central point through which all visitors to the Playhouse pass. Sound and lighting installations, dance performances and art workshops have all been situated in the foyer. The situation at the centre of the building creates a transient space and this can be utilised if it fits the nature of a performance or workshop.

the workshop at bradford playhouse

Are you looking for a temporary studio or workshop? Our inhouse workshop is available for short term hire for artists passing through Bradford, or local artists who require a larger space than they currently have access to. It's also a mine of theatre paraphernalia, from Roman columns to painted backdrops that can be used if you need them for a particular project, subject to permissions.
